On Wednesday, December 11, School of General Studies students and alumni will gather on the northeast corner of Lewisohn Lawn for a dedication and flag raising ceremony. A gift of the Class of 2013, a GS flag bearing the School’s official seal and the letters G and S will mark the School’s place—both physically on the Morningside Campus and as part of the Columbia undergraduate community.

Spearheaded by former General Studies Student Council vice president of policy Nikki Morgan ’13, the project is a way for the Class of 2013 to give back to GS. “I wanted to leave something behind for future students that encapsulates this unique journey—something that says, ‘You are part of this community,’” Morgan said.

The event will include a ceremonial flag raising by Morgan and 2013 Senior Class President Angelica Hojos ’13 and dedication remarks by Dean Peter J. Awn. It will be followed by a reception featuring hot seasonal beverages on the terrace in front of Dodge Hall.
