Beginning this spring, School of General Studies and Postbac Premed students will have the opportunity to enrich and diversify their educations through collaboration with the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.  The only program of its kind between Mailman and another Columbia school, this expedited program, which will take only one year to complete, will allow GS undergraduates and Postbac Premed students to complete a Master of Public Health in the year following their graduations.

According to Victoria Rosner, Columbia University School of General Studies senior associate dean, the program was created in response to students’ passion for opportunities in public health.

“Many of our students expressed their enthusiasm for expanding or building a foundation of knowledge around the ever-growing field of public health.  I am delighted that our students will have the opportunity to participate in this unique collaboration, given the stature of Mailman as a national and world leader in public health research, education, and policymaking,” Rosner said.

Public health is a rapidly expanding discipline that combines science and art of creating healthy communities through education, research, and promotion of healthy lifestyles.

The deadline to apply for this program in January 15, 2014. For more information about the program, visit http://www.gs.columbia.edu/postbac/mph or http://www.gs.columbia.edu/mph.
